Clustering of cardiovascular risk factors in diabetic and glucose Intolerance cases in Isfahan – (2001: Isfahan)
Background
Diabetes is one of most command non-communicable disease in the world. Diabetics are one more exposed to the development cardiovascular disease.
Objective
This study has been done in order to cluster the cardiac risk factors patients and to compare the abundance of these risk factors in diabetic patients and patients with glucose intolerance with normal people and also to compare the abundance of these factors in known cases with new cases of diabetes mellitus with each other.
Methods
the data of this cross-sectional study was obtained from the implementation of phase I of IHHP. Random-cluster sampling was done for selecting. 3940 persons from Isfahan province of both sexes (1914 male, 2026 female) above 19 years old have been above 19 years old have been studied. The demographic characteristics Information were obtained by the questionnaire. Important risk factors such as Systolic blood pressure, Diastolic blood pressure, Waist circumference, Body mass Index, Fasting blood sugar, Triglycerid, Total Cholesterol, High density lipoprotein low density lipoprotein were obtained by blood sampling, measurement of weight height, blood pressure and waist circumference. Statistical analysis was done by test and by SPSS software.
Findings
The prevalence of known diabetes, new cases of diabetes, and glucose resistance were 4.3, 1.1, and 6.2 percent respectively in total community. The prevalence of the above mentioned cases in women were 4.9, 1.2 and 1.1 percent and in men were 3.7, 1 and 5.3 percent respectively.
Comparing just the aboundence of blood lipids disorder in patients and in healthy present has shown a significant difference between them.
Also when all of the risk factors with together are compared., the difference would be significant. the prevalence of blood lipids disorder in men was higher than in women and this difference is significant. When the prevalence of risk factors, consist of the increase in BMI or WC with blood lipids disorder is compared between two sexes, the prevalence of them is significantly higher in women than men(P<0/05).
Conclusions
The results of this study indicates the high prevalence of risk factors especially increase of obesity prevalence and blood lipids’ disorder in the population afflicted to diabetes and with glucose intolerance. So, the strategy of prevention and treatment of diabetes should be launched in the community according to the extent of these risk factors.
